9th Grade Game Summaries- 2016


Brian Pechin went 2-3, sparking Lanier  to a 6-3 victory in seven innings over Norcross.  The  Longhorns never surrendered the lead after the second inning, scoring four runs on a fielder's choice, an RBI single by Jonce Wilcox, and an RBI triple by Troy Smith.  After pushing across one run in the top of the third, Norcross faced just a 4-2 deficit. A walk by Sam Howard sparked Norcross' rally. Will Hausknechtended the inning by getting Danny Schall to strike out.  Lanier Longhorns Freshman increased its lead with two runs in the fifth. Pechin singled, scoring Zach Marvel to start the inning. That was followed up by Joey Hipple's single, bringing home Pechin.

 Mill Creek

 Mountain View

The 9th Grade was beaten by a very tough Mountain View team 7-2 on Wednesday bringing their record to 1-2 on the season.  
Notables for the 9th Grade Longhorns were Brian Pechin threw 3 innings of 1 earned run ball. Will Hausknecht was brilliant in one inning of relief striking out 2.  Alex Boodram one inning of relief striking out 1 no runs.
Zach Marvel had 2 hits on the night.


North Gwinnett

Despite a big day at the dish from Bryce Bulls, who finished 2-2, Lanier lost 12-5 to North Gwinnett on Tuesday. Brian Pechin ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. Pechin pitched 3 2/3 innings, walked none, struck out none, and allowed three runs.

The bottom of the first saw Lanier take an early lead, 2-0. A single by Zach Marvel, plating Cole Kilgore started the inning off.  The Horns pushed more runs across when Marvel scored on an RBI double by Pechin.

North Gwinnett never surrendered the lead after the second inning, when they plated 4 runs in the inning.


Lanier won the hit battle 8-6 on Thursday, but couldn't push enough runs across to get the win, instead losing 5-4 in seven innings to Archer.

It was a good day at the plate for Brian Pechin. Pechin went 2-3, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the second inning and doubled in the third inning.

Jonce Wilcox was in control on the hill. Archer managed just three hits off of Wilcox, who allowed one earned run, walked none and struck out four during his five innings of work.


Lanier Longhorns Freshman held tough against Grayson on Tuesday, but Grayson scored seven runs late for a 16-7 victory.

The Longhorns answered Grayson's top inning with one run of its own in the first. Lanier Longhorns Freshman scored on an RBI single byAlex Boodram.

Grayson never trailed after scoring six runs in the fourth on an error and three singles.

Collins Hill

 After the fifth lead change of the night, Lanier closed out Collins Hill behind two strong innings by Damien Nytko.  Nytko allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out one. 

Lanier pulled out the win thanks in large part to a strong sixth inning that saw the Horns score on an RBI single by Tuari Claiborne bringing home J Ludwig. Offensively, Lanier was led by Alex Boodram's hitting. Boodram went 2-3, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the first and fifth innings.

Peachtree Ridge


Lanier battled Loganville for 4 plus innings behind a big day at the dish from Cole Kilgore, who finished 2-3, Lanier's Freshman lost 6-0 to Loganville on Tuesday.

The game was never in doubt after the fifth, as Loganville scored three runs in the inning.


The Freshman beat Norcross 9-2 in six innings on Thursday after a five-run explosion in the third inning. The offense was led by Jake Ludwig who went 3-4 with a single, a 400 ft double to centerfield, and a B-O-M-B to right field.  He also had 2 runs and 3 RBI on the night.  Zach Marvel was 1-2 with a triple, walk, 2 runs, and 3 RBI and Alex Boodram was 1-2 with a triple, 2 walks, and 3 runs.

Troy Smith threw a gem on the mound going 5 innings, striking out 2, and only allowing 2 runs on 5 total hits in recording the win.

Flowery Branch

Lanier and Flowery Branch volleyed the lead seven times on Saturday, but the Horns came out on top for a 7-6 win on Saturday.

Heading into the bottom of the 7th the Horns were facing a 2 run deficit but they were able to put together a strong rally and pull out the win.  Lanier went up for good on an RBI double by Brian Pechin, bringing in Zach Marvel (1-3, 2R, 1RBI) with the game wining run.

Other offensive standouts for the Horns were Jake Ludwig who was a perfect 2-2 at the plate with 2 RBI, 2 runs scored and 2 BB . He tripled in the first inning and doubled in the fifth inning.  Cole Kilgore went 2-4 with a RBI, Jonce Wilcox and Bryce Bulls were each 1-3 with a RBI.

Peachtree Ridge

Longhorn Freshman stayed hot Tuesday in notching their 3rd win in a row.  Tuari Claiborne had three RBIs, helping Lanier to an 8-3 victory over Peachtree Ridge on Tuesday. He doubled in the second inning and singled in the fourth and sixth innings.

Brian Pechin handled Peachtree Ridge's lineup with ease in his complete game win, racking up six strikeouts. Pechin allowed three earned runs (1 over the last 6 innings) on five hits and one walk. 

 Mill Creek

Lanier Freshman concluded their regular season Thursday evening at The Ranch, unfortunately they ran into a Mill Creek team that was able to put 13 hits together to plate 15 runs.  The Freshman will now prepare for the end of season tournament that will be played on the 19th with a double-header at Norcross High School beginning at 4:30 pm.
